Natten till igår gick 2016 års upplaga av CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) fashion awards av stapeln och många var de amerikanska designers som slogs om priserna. Föga förvånande tog Alessandro Michele och Gucci årets International award, och bland övriga hittade man Thom Browne (menswear), Mansur Gavriel (Accessories) och specialpriser delades ut till Business of Fashion och David Bowie's minne. Årets modeikon skulle även prisas och i år har det tisslats och tasslats om vem som skulle plocka hem det priset länge. Arrangörerna hade in i det längsta lyckats hålla pristagaren hemlig: ingen mindre än Beyoncé (hurra!)
Beyoncé höll ett fantastiskt fint tacktal om hur mycket hennes mors kläder betytt för henne, och även om jag hade koll på att Tina Knowles sydde kläder till Destiny's child så hade jag ingen aning om att hon tidigt hade en dröm om att bli modedesigner. Jag tycker Beyoncé är en väldigt värdig vinnare då hon det senaste året gång efter gång bevisat hur mycket kläder kan förmedla. Ett av flera prov på det är hennes halvtidsframträdande under Super Bowl där hon bär samma typ av outfit som Michael Jackson hade på sin tid matchat med svarta skinnkepsar likt dom de Svarta pantrarna bar på 70-talet. Och givetvis hennes senaste visuella album Lemonade, där hon fullständigt (och bokstavligt) krossar allt i en magisk klänning från Roberto Cavalli.
Mode är magiskt och Beyoncé har förmodligen ännu fler trick som väntar i ärmen. You slay Bey.
Last night the 2016 edition of the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Fashion Awards was held in NYC and many American designers were awarded. Not surprisingly Alessandro Michele and Gucci got this year's International Award, and among other laureates were Thom Browne (menswear), Mansur Gavriel (Accessories) and special prizes went to The Business of Fashion and David Bowie's memory. 2016's fashion icon was also to be announced and this year they managed to keep that prize winner a secret up until the actual award. The winner was none other than Beyoncé, hurray!
Beyoncé held a fantastic acceptance speech about how much her mother's clothes meant for her, and even though I knew that Tina Knowles sewed clothes for Destiny's Child, I had no idea that she early on had a dream of becoming a fashion designer. I think Beyoncé is a very worthy winner, she has only in the last year time and time again showed everyone how much clothes actually can convey. One of several samples of that is her halftime performance during Super Bowl where she wore the same type of outfit that Michael Jackson had back in the 90s, matched with black leather caps not unlike the ones the Black panthers wore in the 70s. And of course her latest visual album Lemonade, where she completely (and literally) crushes everything in a magic dress from Roberto Cavalli.
Fashion is magical and I'm sure Beyoncé has even more tricks up her sleeve. You slay Bey.
