The Wizard of Wazte

Hola onsdagslovers!

Hey Wednesdaylovers! I thought I'd mix in a fashion post, to make sure you're not completely bored with palm trees and sandy beaches 😉 I haven't told you about a very exciting project we're working on in the course Surface Treatment. We started off by creating collages, an artform I really like and want to become better at. You can find some of my fave collages here.

We will there after work from our collage, interpret it and make garments from it with different surface treatments on them. I've had an idea since last spring to do a collection out of waste material, and I'm apparently not the only one with that idea (*cough* The latest show from Christopher Kane *cough*). I've had fairytales as a theme this year so I decided to do a collage with a paraphrase on the classic The Wizard of Oz. Behold: The wizard of wazte.

Yes I know the photoshopping aint that good, but I'm blaming my old pal time crunch. I'm although very happy with the idea! We sent off the print to an American print firm straight away and just before leaving Paris I got it back. And I've also started trials on a bomber/armyjacket that will have a yoke made of scrap pieces of fabrics and other discarded things with the text "Wizard of wazte" printed in gold graffiti letters over it. Gaah, this is so much fun! Wish I had the time to make a whole collection of waste materials. Will update you with the result further on!

Project for Elie Saab

First day of school started with a bang. Our first brief, or project, in digital fashion drawing was presented and guess what: we're doing a project for Elie Saab. A Ready to Wear capsule with 6 looks in the theme of "The Contemporary bride". The student who makes the best project wins work experience at Elie Saab. Shut the front door!!! So I'm gonna crawl under the skin of the House of Saab, make customer analyses and see where the contemporary wind is blowing. Bridezilla has a designer hanging at her trail!!!

There are of course challenges in this, like that it has to be a RTW collection for wedding attire and I, with my somewhat Scandinavian minimalist style, should design a capsule that Saab's customers will like. But I already have a few ideas. The project will be done in about eight weeks, promis that you will see what it looks like then! And please keep fingers crossed 😉

Now I have to rush, have signed up for a gym card to be used (goals for 2016!) And in the mean time they will have another viewing of the apartment we live in (like the 15th). It is supposed to be sold, but it seems to be a never ending story ... à tout à l'heure!

Finals behind the scenes

The days before final critique were pretty intense and there was a constant struggle against time to finish before deadline. The studio gets pretty (very) messy and I snapped a few photos to show this less glamorous side of fashion design 😉

Finals Paris College of Art

Borden fulla med tyg, golven ska vi inte ens prata om / Tables filled with fabric and lets not even talk about the floors

Finals Paris College of Art

/ The only breaks you took were either for food or caffein/nicotine. I don't smoke or drink coffee but had my fair share of Cola Zero.

Finals Paris College of Art

Två tappra klasskamrater i andra ateljén. Two dear fellow classmates hanging in there.

Somehow you always finish in time, even though it feels like it wasn't gonna happen. It's like magic! But sleep deprivation and a lot of junk food is the result, so I really want to take care of my body. I was totally knackered yesterday.

Running errands

Today has been quite an intense day "off" from school, I think the right word for this day should be schedule free, not an off day haha. I did sleep in a little but from lunch and on I've been out and about, going to the bank (again!), grocery shopping, and shopping materials and supplies needed for courses. And I've also found out I have an interview tomorrow with a high profile fashion house for an internship at Paris Fashion week. Eeek!!

And in between all this I read about the refugees being welcomed/not welcomed in Sweden and got super emotional. My grandfather was a refugee during WW2, so if Sweden wouldn't have taken him and his family in I would probably not have been here. They fleed from Estonia and the Russian and German army in a sailing boat across the baltic sea (sound familiar?). I cannot imagine what you have to go through to do such a thing. Anyways, my crying won't help but my donations and standing up for helping those in need would.

And to end on a positive note I saw I was added in PCA's monthly newsletter as a new student blogging about my first day at the school. Maybe there will be some new faces here, you are much welcome 🙂 here are some pics from my day of errands on town. (The decor in the Opera area, wowie!) Good night y'all!
