Fashion design toolboox: Fashionpedia

It's time for a new element in the Fashion behind the scenes category here on the blog: Fashion design toolbox! In these posts I'm going to speak a little about tools fashion designer can/should use when working in the business. Small things or big things, old and new. The first thing I'm covering is totally brand new and nothing mandatory but oh so handy: Fashionpedia! It's what you think it is, an encyclopedia with everything fashion in it. If you've followed the blog for a while you might remember when I went to London and got myself a fashionary sketchbook? It's the same guy and team who's behind the Fashionpedia. Let's have a look!

The book covers where to source fabric globally.fashionpedia_encyclopedia_for_fashion_designers

Allting gås över, även accessoarerna! / And the accessories, super important!fashionpedia_tool_for_designers

Siluetter och modehistoria täcks också. / Silhouettes and a bit of fashion history is in there too.fashionpediaDet finns hur mycket som helst mer i och snygg är den med! I mina drömmar). / There's a whole lot more in it, and it's very stylish too. I like the care label on the front haha. This is what I'm gonna read when I have trouble sleeping. If you want to lay your hands on one too, check it out here (NOT sponsored, I wish 😉  )

Ikea hackers bar cart DIY

A neat and beautifully decorated home does a lot for your feeling of zen (at least for me). I saw this quite lovely bar cart from Ikea hackers (yep, you can spend a lot of time on their website, just a kind warning). Getting a little creative helps you relax too!

Behind the scenes with Fashionary

Last but not least, an inspiring story about the man behind Fashionary, the must have sketch book for designers and buyers in the fashion industry. I've written about Fashionary's all perks before if you want a catch up on this favorite of mine. This is how illustrator Connie Lim uses hers, beautiful!

Hope you'll have a better Monday now! 😉

Fashionary sketch book – latest influence

When we were in London I managed to lay my hands on a Fashionary sketch book - a sketchbook filled with all the necessary information a fashion designer could need. It's almost half of my education in really condensed information in there. The big thing is that it has really handy sketch pages with posture dolls in dots, ready to be filled out the way you want them. This saves a lot of time and is such a smart tool! I wish I had that when I worked as a designer and did trips to suppliers and had to do fast hand sketches.fashionary_sketches fashionary_posture fashionary_wovenDet finns en sektion med poser, kroppsmått, standardstorlekar, ett klädbibliotek, knappstorlekar, tvättlappar, sömmar och stickningar, bloggar, typsnitt, förkortningar, modevisningsscheman - ja typ allt!

It has a posture section, a body measurement section, standard sizes, a clothing library, button sizes, care labeling, seams and stitches, fashion blogs, typefaces, abbreviations, catwalk schedule - yes pretty much everything. So worth the 20 quids I payed for it. Looking forward to using it! Take a look here if you want to see some beautiful sketches people have created with it!
