Haute couture iphone

This morning we had a midterm critique for our Couture Craftmanship class project "Sensations" which will be sent in to the lace contest La fédération de la Dentelle et de la Broderie arranges next year. I had two ideas and one of them was a haute couture iphone cover and I wanted to show it to you.

Couture Craftmanship - Haute Couture iphoneThe theme was "Sensations", which can be interpreted as the five senses and the reactions we have from them. I thought about our everyday life and that a lot of our sensations and impressions come from the smartphone and what happens on the screen.

Couture Craftmanship - Haute Couture iphoneI wanted to make a packaging for the iphone more beautiful and saw a gap in the couturiers collections. They do fantastic creations in clothes and bags but I haven't found a couturier phone. Couture Craftmanship - Haute Couture iphoneIn this class we've done a lot of experiments with lace and foil, resin and silicone finishes which is very interesting.Couture Craftmanship - Haute Couture iphoneIt may look tiny but many many hours goes into a small embroidery like this. BUT! This couture iphone idea was actually not very much liked by the jury. Sometimes a good idea isn't good enough. So I will continue with my other idea of the music and I will show you the results when the project is due. It's a hard knock life in the fashion industry 😉

Paris College of Art – Couture craftsmanship

I wanted to show you what's going on in my class called Couture Craftmanship here at PCA. It's one of my favorite classes and very experimental.

Today we are bringing in our research file and inspiration for the contest we are doing together with the French federation of Lace and Embroidery. Lace is a very big thing here in France and there are a few Lace couturiers here in Paris that only work with lace. The theme for this years contest is Sensations. There are three categories to chose to compete in; fashion, art and product design. I have two different ideas, one about a lace candle and the second one about lace in music. Here's my mood board.

It's a lovely theme and I will update you on the progression of my products. Check out this site with even more inspiration about textiles!

Running errands

Today has been quite an intense day "off" from school, I think the right word for this day should be schedule free, not an off day haha. I did sleep in a little but from lunch and on I've been out and about, going to the bank (again!), grocery shopping, and shopping materials and supplies needed for courses. And I've also found out I have an interview tomorrow with a high profile fashion house for an internship at Paris Fashion week. Eeek!!

And in between all this I read about the refugees being welcomed/not welcomed in Sweden and got super emotional. My grandfather was a refugee during WW2, so if Sweden wouldn't have taken him and his family in I would probably not have been here. They fleed from Estonia and the Russian and German army in a sailing boat across the baltic sea (sound familiar?). I cannot imagine what you have to go through to do such a thing. Anyways, my crying won't help but my donations and standing up for helping those in need would.

And to end on a positive note I saw I was added in PCA's monthly newsletter as a new student blogging about my first day at the school. Maybe there will be some new faces here, you are much welcome 🙂 here are some pics from my day of errands on town. (The decor in the Opera area, wowie!) Good night y'all!

First day at Paris College of Art

First day of class at Paris college of art went by soooo fast.

A small explanation of why I'm writing my blog posts in English again 🙂 since school is all in English I do need to practice writing it as much as I can. Anyways, as I said: first day of school was intense and high paced. I started this morning with digital fashion studio, a very interesting course were I have a lot of experience but the briefs (the description of the assignment) were easy to adapt to your own level. The first brief was to design prints for SS16 for a fashion house. I chose Preen by Thornton Bregazzi because I love their prints and I think I have a clear vision of what they would do print wise. It's a little bit of trying to predict the future since they will show their SS16 show very soon, in London in a few weeks time. I will show you my mood board next week. The course is very fast forward, we have three major projects before christmas (among them is also designing a purse and a secret project).

And after that course which fueled the imagination a lot we had Collection concepts development with a woman namned Rosemary that has worked as a creative director for Dior amongst others. (The experiences our tutors have!! Mindblowing.) In this course we are taught how to build collections, which I also have some experience in but not like this. Not for myself. The theme is Tradition vs High tech and again the mind started spinning. I have a few ideas which might melt into one, we'll see. I'll show you my mood boards for this one next week too.

I love making mood boards, which I think will be a plus in this school 🙂 here's one I had in my old apartment.

Foto 2015-01-18 13 12 17Tomorrow I have a super long day in school. It starts at 10.30 with Couture craftsmanship  (very exciting), then Fashion drawing by hand after lunch (also super exciting, but a bit intimidating since I am crap at it) and then Introduction to accessories design until 21.30. So in school for almost 12h on Tuesdays, that will be tough. But fun, I have maxed my credits deliberately to juice out as much as I can from the money I put in. Some parts of the education is funded by CSN and fortunately I get a loan to cover it all but I want to make sure I make the most of it. So pumped! I'll try to update the blog on how the school goes once a week at least, in between my oh-I-love-Paris and fashion posts. A bientôt!

Appartment hunting in Paris!

Gah! Vart ska man bo? Hur ska man bo? Vart KAN jag bo? Här cirklar tankarna just nu. Mottages tacksamt.

It's getting closer, and it's starting to grow on me: the move to Paris in just about two months! Ah! Where should I live la vie Parisienne? How should I love? Where CAN I live? These kind of thoughts are quite extensive and exhausting right now. The school, Paris College of Art, lies in the 10th arrondissement, and it's supposed to be a quite up and coming area if I've understood it correctly. Kinda lika Långgatorna or South of Stockholm with a little cheaper rents since it used to be blue collars residing here. I can be misinformed here, I'm quite out of the loop and I don't like it. So if you have any tips on Paris, feel free to send them my way! It will be greatly appreciated.

Accepted to Paris College of Art

Dear new Paris College of art student, Bienvenue!"

HURRA!

Last week I found out I had been accepted to Paris College of Art's certificate course for 1 year. I am still a bit in shock but oh so happy. This is what I look like when I think about the things I will learn, see and experience in the city of my dreams Paris!
