Fashion drawing Friday

It's fashion drawing Friday time! I followed last week's formula and found a picture in Vogue I liked, one from Saint Laurent's spring campaign. I laughed a little when I saw the shattered mirror pieces, I took almost exactly the same picture at mom & dad's a couple of years ago and made my broken selfie mirror out of it. And here it is in Vogue!

Next Friday will hopefully be an illustration of my own stuff instead. That's really what I want to learn, so change of tactics. But here it is:

Ink is fun but hard to master. I filled out the shadows with water color. I'm pretty happy with it except for the face. But one more illustration under the belt!

Project for Elie Saab

First day of school started with a bang. Our first brief, or project, in digital fashion drawing was presented and guess what: we're doing a project for Elie Saab. A Ready to Wear capsule with 6 looks in the theme of "The Contemporary bride". The student who makes the best project wins work experience at Elie Saab. Shut the front door!!! So I'm gonna crawl under the skin of the House of Saab, make customer analyses and see where the contemporary wind is blowing. Bridezilla has a designer hanging at her trail!!!

There are of course challenges in this, like that it has to be a RTW collection for wedding attire and I, with my somewhat Scandinavian minimalist style, should design a capsule that Saab's customers will like. But I already have a few ideas. The project will be done in about eight weeks, promis that you will see what it looks like then! And please keep fingers crossed 😉

Now I have to rush, have signed up for a gym card to be used (goals for 2016!) And in the mean time they will have another viewing of the apartment we live in (like the 15th). It is supposed to be sold, but it seems to be a never ending story ... à tout à l'heure!

Fashion drawing Friday – Gucci girls

It's Fashion drawing Friday! I can admit that I was struggling to sit down at my sketch pad and force myself to sketch something. I have such high demands on my sketching but I'm really quite bad at it - as you understand it, this doesn't compute! Thinking that way there would never be any sketches and as a result also no improvement. So again, I had to remind myself that I am doing this for the sake of practice.

To get started with anything at all, I went through my Pinterest board to find a picture that I really liked. The images from Gucci's spring collection caught my eye and I chose these two girls from there. The style is a bit delightfully geeky 60-70's and the sketch was a bit like half scruffy cartoon. I realized that experimenting with different styles will have to come later, when I'm more skilled 😉

Hey Friday! Today I'm doing my last day at NK for a while (maybe forever?) and I'm also launching Fashion drawing Friday! I wrote about my goal to produce 52 fashion drawings yesterday and this is my first one.

I took a fashion drawing class last term but I didnt really feel the way we drew in that class at all. It feels kinda dated and a little bit old. But I thought I'd show you the end result. This is my pink skirt we did in draping class, which I incorporated into my collection "The Empress' clothes". I'm very much looking forward to experimenting with different styles this year tho to find my own personal way of illustrating!

I used pigma pen 0.1 for the lines and colored it with watercolor pens and promarkers. A lil goldglitter was added to the shoes.

Diamant bag project

Heyyy Saturday. You're not as foxy as usual. My neighbor had a party until 5 am this morning and I'm now on my way to school. 🙁 But only three more days to go now. I thought I could show you some more of what I've done in Digital fashion studio the last couple of weeks.

We had an bag project where the brief instruction was to design our own bag, think up a story around it, the technical drawings and colors and then also do a photoshoot for it. This is how mine turned out.

Bagproject_sandranicolefreiman8

My campaign photo, imagined in a glossy fashion magazine. Sister helped med take this photo. Thanks sis!

The mood, quite glam and party focused. Was inspired by the mirror art that is popping up here and there within interior design and by precious stone shapes.

Materials. The bag would look really nice in black leather or mirrored plexiglass *heart emojis*. Anyone who wants to sponsor a bag startup? 😀

My first sketches and the first try out, made from an origami base.

I wanted to make a clutch in a different shape, something that would be a conversation starter and I feel I succeeded with that. I like how it turned out, I still need to add a colorway to that board and finish the technical specs. Accessory design is really fun and I'm going to take a course in that next semester, maybe I can make this bag come true 🙂

Creating a pair of trousers

Before we started the shirt I finished my other project in draping class, a pair of very wide trousers in a custom fit for me. I have lately seen a lot of ultra wide trousers in street style photos and absolutely adore the woolen ones. I showed my teacher this moodboard before we started creating:

wool_trousers_wideMy favorite is the one far right, with a polo. My teacher is super talented and thought that I should do a pair of trousers in wool, without darts on them. These are darts, for those who don't speak sewing and in wool you can achieve them with a hot iron and wet cloth. (Amazing! I just love wool.)

So we started out by adjusting our trousers block, a very basic pattern of trousers. I took my measurements and added the extra centimeters equally on each side and on the darts on the pattern.

P1070082Here you can see my adjusting lines, adding the width of the leg to the basic pattern. You better keep track of which line is which 🙂

P1070084On the construction, which you first make in paper, I had to keep the darts. The toile fabric (cotton muslin) does not allow shrinking darts, so to be able to check the fit I had to keep them for now.

P1070085When you're done with the construction, you deserve a food break (Usually plenty breaks...)
P1070084 I then cut out the construction in muslin and started sewing my toile together.
P1070161
P1070162 This was the result. After a little tinkering with the center front/crotch curve I had a green light to start with my trousers in real fabric. I chose a nice melange wool, bought 3 meters for 40€ at one of the very many fabric shops at Sacre Coeur. I practiced the art of shrinking the wool with heat and water first.

P1070166 You mark the area you want to shrink, sew a thread through and then pull to desired length.
P1070164Iron it on a special rounded iron board, with a damp cloth over (you have to be careful to not burn the fabric).
P1070165And this is the result of the ironing. Quite cool huh!

After that, I lined my fabric and sewed it all together (and more than one time yelled at the sewing machine), and after a lot of hours spent on this project I could finally test my result:

Sewing couture trousers
Sewing couture trousers
Sewing couture trousersWoop! The feeling of putting on a pair of trousers you custom made for yourself, with a special haute couture technique (called resorbé in French) and it actually fits like a glove, is very nice!!

I just realize I forgot taking a pic on the back, where the technique of reducing the fabric is even more obvious but I'll do that some other time. When seeing the pics I'm thinking about changing the bottom hem just a little, add another centimeter to the length. What do you think of my pair of trousers? 😀

My pink skirt in Draping class

This Friday I had a presentation of my pink skirt project in 3D design class. Under three weeks we worked on draping a skirt straight on the form, first in muslin and then we had to choose a suitable fabric. I went a little over board on an expensive cashmere but I did really want it to be pink.

Pink Cashmir Skirt projectI really like the shape and that the thick fabric makes it some what of a winter skirt.

Pink Cashmir Skirt projectDraping on a model is so much more understandable than working with flat patterns. You understand the shapes and its consequences a lot more.Pink Cashmir Skirt project As you might have seen I had a little breakdown earlier this week resulting in tea stains all over the skirt. They are still there, but at least they are harder to see now after a cold hand wash - cashmere is sensitive to washing so I did not dare wash it in a laundromat. At least now I know better than to transport any liquid together with one of my precious project in the same bag. You live and you learn. 😉

Haute couture iphone

This morning we had a midterm critique for our Couture Craftmanship class project "Sensations" which will be sent in to the lace contest La fédération de la Dentelle et de la Broderie arranges next year. I had two ideas and one of them was a haute couture iphone cover and I wanted to show it to you.

Inspiration pictures from Alexander McQueen Couture collection Fall 2013
Couture Craftmanship - Haute Couture iphoneThe theme was "Sensations", which can be interpreted as the five senses and the reactions we have from them. I thought about our everyday life and that a lot of our sensations and impressions come from the smartphone and what happens on the screen.

Couture Craftmanship - Haute Couture iphoneI wanted to make a packaging for the iphone more beautiful and saw a gap in the couturiers collections. They do fantastic creations in clothes and bags but I haven't found a couturier phone. Couture Craftmanship - Haute Couture iphoneIn this class we've done a lot of experiments with lace and foil, resin and silicone finishes which is very interesting.Couture Craftmanship - Haute Couture iphoneIt may look tiny but many many hours goes into a small embroidery like this. BUT! This couture iphone idea was actually not very much liked by the jury. Sometimes a good idea isn't good enough. So I will continue with my other idea of the music and I will show you the results when the project is due. It's a hard knock life in the fashion industry 😉

Paris College of Art – Couture craftsmanship

I wanted to show you what's going on in my class called Couture Craftmanship here at PCA. It's one of my favorite classes and very experimental.

Today we are bringing in our research file and inspiration for the contest we are doing together with the French federation of Lace and Embroidery. Lace is a very big thing here in France and there are a few Lace couturiers here in Paris that only work with lace. The theme for this years contest is Sensations. There are three categories to chose to compete in; fashion, art and product design. I have two different ideas, one about a lace candle and the second one about lace in music. Here's my mood board.

laceinspiration_sandra

It's a lovely theme and I will update you on the progression of my products. Check out this site with even more inspiration about textiles!

Lindex summer collection 2015

Lindex summer collection 2015 is soon out in stores, and I've taken part in of some of the trousers and shorts for the Everyday concept. It's always nice to see how the campaign pics turn out. Sometimes the color of the photo sample the photoshoot crew get is a little off or they style a pair of shorts all wrong (see below) but those are things hard to control and more often than not it looks good. Here are a few pics of the products I've been working with, and you can find all the pics from the campaign here.

Lindex-Summer-C-ss2015-15-683x1024 Lindex-Summer-C-ss2015-23-818x1024Shortsen är tänka att sitta i midjan och inte höften. Dock väldigt fina ändå.

The shorts are supposed to sit at waist, not at hip. Perfect summer shorts anyway.Lindex-Summer-C-ss2015-22-818x1024 Lindex-Summer-C-ss2015-31-1024x1017

lindex_women_shorts lindex_women_summer_pantsJag har siktat in mig på de svartvita shortsen med pompoms, så himla söta om en får säga det själv!

I am getting the black/white pair of shorts, just love these cute ones with pompoms!
